Synopsis
## Shaman King
*Shaman King* by Hiroyuki Takei is a beloved Weekly Shonen Jump classic from the late 1990s and 2000s — an inventive supernatural adventure about shamans, spirits, and the tournament to become the King of Shamans who can reshape the world.
Yoh Asakura is a laid-back shaman — someone who can communicate with and channel the power of spirits. Together with his fierce, ambitious fiancée Anna Kyoyama, Yoh trains to compete in the Shaman Fight, a battle held every 500 years to determine who will become the Shaman King: a being granted the power to commune with the Great Spirit and reshape the destiny of humanity. Along the way, Yoh befriends a growing cast of shamans from around the world, each with their own guardian spirits, backstories, and reasons to fight. Opposing them is the terrifying Hao Asakura — a reincarnated shaman of unimaginable power who has conquered the Shaman Fight twice before and is Yoh's own twin brother. *Shaman King* balances infectious optimism, rich mythology, and surprisingly dark thematic depth in a story about coexistence between humanity and the spirit world.
