## Pluto *Pluto* is Naoki Urasawa's audacious reimagining of Osamu Tezuka's *Astro Boy* arc "The Greatest Robot on Earth," published in *Big Comic Original* from 2003 to 2009. Working with Tezuka Productions and Takashi Nagasaki, Urasawa expands what was a children's story into a dense, adult meditation on war, grief, and what it means to be human — all while retaining the structural skeleton of Tezuka's original. The manga was adapted into a critically acclaimed anime series by Netflix in 2023. In a near future where robots and humans coexist, a series of murders targets the world's seven most powerful robots — one by one, each destroyed by something immensely strong. Europol's robot detective Gesicht is assigned to investigate, but discovers his own memory has gaps he cannot explain. The case pulls him toward Bora, a devastating war waged in the Middle East under false pretexts, and toward a figure of pure hatred powerful enough to destroy anything it touches. *Pluto* asks what happens when robots are given the capacity for grief, rage, and love — and whether those emotions, in the end, make them more or less dangerous than the humans who built them.
