## Jujutsu Kaisen *Jujutsu Kaisen* by Gege Akutami ran in *Weekly Shonen Jump* from 2018 to 2024, concluding at 271 chapters across 27 volumes. The manga spawned one of the most commercially dominant anime franchises of the 2020s — but the source material is darker, more structurally unpredictable, and more willing to break the reader's expectations than the anime alone conveys. The manga's final arc, in particular, pushed far beyond what shonen typically allows. Yuji Itadori is a physically gifted high school student who swallows a cursed finger of the legendary King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna, to save his classmates — and becomes Sukuna's vessel. Rather than being executed, he is enrolled in Tokyo Jujutsu High under sorcerer Satoru Gojo to consume all of Sukuna's remaining fingers before being killed. *Jujutsu Kaisen* is an action manga with some of the most inventive combat choreography in the genre, an increasingly bleak view of the world its characters inhabit, and a habit of eliminating characters — including major ones — without warning. By the Culling Game arc, the manga had transformed into something significantly darker than its early chapters suggested.
