Synopsis

## Kingdom **Kingdom** (キングダム) is a 2012 anime television series produced by Studio Pierrot, adapted from Yasuhisa Hara's acclaimed manga series. Set during China's Warring States period (475–221 BC), it is one of the most ambitious historical anime ever made — a sweeping epic of war, strategy, and personal ambition on the scale of China's most formative era. The manga has sold over 100 million copies in Japan alone, and the anime has spawned multiple sequel seasons beloved by fans worldwide. In the chaotic Warring States era of ancient China, the war orphan Xin lives as a slave with his friend Piao, and they share a single burning dream: to become the greatest generals under heaven. When Piao is taken from the village by a mysterious nobleman, Xin is left alone — until Piao returns dying, and in his final moments leads Xin to a young boy hiding in the mountains: Ei Sei, the king of Qin, who has been forced into hiding by a coup at court. Xin and Ei Sei form an unlikely alliance. The king dreams of unifying all of China under one rule; Xin wants only to rise through battle and become a legend. Their paths run parallel through years of brutal warfare, political intrigue, and the rise and fall of legendary generals. Kingdom is a genre epic that rewards patience with genuine grandeur.
