## High School of the Dead *High School of the Dead* is the quintessential zombie survival anime — fast, loud, deliberately excessive, and produced by Madhouse at a technical level that makes every outbreak sequence feel genuinely dangerous. On an ordinary morning at Fujimi High School, an infected man appears at the school gate and the zombie apocalypse begins without warning. Takashi Komuro and his childhood friend Rei Miyamoto are among the first students to understand what is happening. Together with a small group of survivors — including the kendo club captain Saeko Busujima, the genius gun-otaku Kohta Hirano, and student council president Saya Takagi — they fight their way out of the school and into a collapsed society. The group must navigate not only waves of the undead but the rapid moral decay of surviving humans: armed militias, authoritarian enclaves, and desperate individuals who have abandoned civilization's norms. Based on the manga by Daisuke Sato and Shouji Sato, the series ran 12 episodes in Summer 2010 and remains the definitive zombie anime, celebrated for its relentless pacing, sharp action choreography by Madhouse, and memorably over-the-top presentation.
