## Trigun Stampede Is Coming Back
Studio Orange has confirmed that *Trigun Stampede* will return for a second season. The announcement arrived through the franchise's official channels and was accompanied by a fifteen-second teaser clip — Vash's silhouette against a desert sunset, coat billowing, the unmistakable shape of his arm cannon visible for exactly one frame before the screen cuts to a release window announcement.
It is, as announcements go, very on-brand.
### What Season 1 Was and Why Season 2 Matters
When *Trigun Stampede* premiered in January 2023, it landed in a complicated position. It was a reinvention, not a remake — Studio Orange used the opportunity to rebuild Yasuhiro Nightow's world from the ground up in their signature cel-shaded CG style rather than simply adapting the 1998 anime. The result divided the fandom almost immediately along generational lines: longtime fans grieved the loss of the original's warmth and comedic energy, while newcomers encountered a leaner, more brutal version of the same universe and often found it compelling on its own terms.
The CG animation was, by the end of Season 1, being discussed in much more favorable terms than when the series began. Studio Orange's technical fluency — the way they handle weight, motion, and environment detail — was evident throughout. The character design changes were harder to accept initially, but by the finale most viewers had stopped litigating them.
Season 1 ended on an intentional cliffhanger. Without spoiling specifics: the philosophical core of the conflict between Vash and Knives has been established, and the story has yet to resolve it. Season 2 is the resolution.
### Creative Team Returns
Studio Orange confirmed that the Season 1 creative team is returning intact:
- **Director:** Kenji Muto
- **Series composition:** Yoshihisa Ueda
- **Character design:** Takahito Sakazume (updated design evolution expected)
- **Music:** Tatsuya Kato
The studio added in its announcement statement: "We always intended this as a complete story. We look forward to sharing its conclusion."
### Premiere Window
Studio Orange confirmed a **2027 premiere**, with more specific seasonal information expected later in 2026. Given the studio's production track record with *Land of the Lustrous* and their announced *Land of the Lustrous* Season 2 project, the timeline reflects realistic capacity planning.
The gap between seasons will be longer than some fans hoped, but the studio's commitment to finishing on their own terms is consistent with how they've handled every project in their catalog.
### The Franchise Context
*Trigun Stampede* is part of a franchise with significant history. Yasuhiro Nightow's original manga ran from 1995 to 2008. The 1998 anime adaptation — lighter, funnier, and more episodic — introduced the franchise to an international audience and created the template that most fans carry in their memory. *Stampede* is the first major new production in the *Trigun* universe since the 2010 film *Trigun: Badlands Rumble*.
For older fans: Season 2 will not give you the 1998 anime. For newer fans: it does not need to.
*Trigun Stampede* Season 1 is streaming on Crunchyroll.
