## The Rascal Does Not Dream Trilogy Gets Its End Date
CloverWorks and Aniplex have confirmed that the third and final film in the *Rascal Does Not Dream* theatrical trilogy will premiere in **Spring 2027**, bringing the anime adaptation of Hajime Kamoshida's light novel series to its conclusion.
The announcement was accompanied by a brief teaser visual — a single image of the Fujisawa shoreline at sunrise, with no character silhouettes — and the tagline: *"The last dream. The first answer."*
**The trilogy so far**
The *Rascal Does Not Dream* theatrical trilogy began where the television series ended: the 13-episode run adapted the first four novels, and the 2019 film *Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl* adapted the fifth novel (the Shoko arc). The second theatrical film, released in late 2025, covered the sixth and seventh novels, which introduced the parallel-world premise that shifts the series' central dramatic weight from Sakuta and Mai's relationship to questions of memory, identity, and irreversible choice.
The final film will adapt the eighth and ninth novels — the end of the story Kamoshida built.
**What to expect from the finale**
The later volumes of the *Rascal Does Not Dream* light novel series mark a significant tonal shift from the warm, witty Adolescence Syndrome arcs of the early books. Without spoiling the specific mechanics: the narrative pays off every emotional debt accumulated across the previous eight volumes, and it does so at a cost that readers consistently describe as earned rather than manipulative.
Director Souichi Masui, who has helmed both prior theatrical entries, returns for the finale. The voice cast — Kaito Ishikawa as Sakuta, Asami Seto as Mai — has been confirmed for the full production.
**Production status**
Animation production is listed as "in final stages." CloverWorks has not yet released trailer material beyond the teaser visual. A full theatrical trailer is expected in late 2026.
Exact release dates within Spring 2027 have not been confirmed. Japan will premiere first; international theatrical release through Aniplex's regional partners is expected within 30–60 days of the Japan run.
**Why it matters**
*Rascal Does Not Dream* arrived in 2018 as one of those series that succeeds by being precisely what it sets out to be: emotionally intelligent, structurally clean, and resistant to the escalation traps that undo lesser light novel adaptations. CloverWorks' production matched that discipline. The theatrical run maintaining that standard — and ending on the source material's actual conclusion — is something fans of the series have been waiting for since 2019.
