Synopsis
## Welcome to the NHK
**Welcome to the NHK** (NHK にようこそ!) is a 2006 psychological drama anime produced by Gonzo, based on the light novel by Tatsuhiko Takimoto with art by Kendi Oiwa. The series is a frank, often darkly comic portrait of social withdrawal, depression, and the elaborate mental architectures people build to avoid confronting their failures. It remains one of the most honest depictions of hikikomori life in anime.
Tatsuhiro Satou has been a shut-in for nearly four years. A paranoid college dropout who rarely leaves his apartment, he has come to believe that the NHK — Japan's public broadcaster — is actually a secret conspiracy designed to manufacture hikikomori like himself. When he makes a chance encounter with a mysterious young woman named Misaki, who claims she wants to help cure him of his isolation through a "project," Satou is dragged — reluctantly — back toward the world. But Misaki has her own wounds she's trying to outrun. As Satou navigates failed romances, an MMO addiction, a pyramid scheme, and the pressure of his childhood friend Yamazaki dragging him into eroge game development, the show dissects with uncomfortable precision the internal logic of avoidance, and asks whether the connections we form out of mutual damage can still hold us together.
