Synopsis
## Tokyo Godfathers
**Tokyo Godfathers** is a 2003 animated comedy-drama film written and directed by Satoshi Kon, produced by Madhouse. It stands apart from Kon's other work in its warmth and accessibility — a rollicking, deeply humanist Christmas adventure that celebrates the dignity of people society has forgotten. Loose in tone and surprisingly funny, it remains one of the most purely enjoyable anime films ever made while never shying away from its characters' pain.
On Christmas Eve in Tokyo, three homeless people — the gruff middle-aged Gin, the flamboyant former drag queen Hana, and the runaway teenager Miyuki — discover an abandoned newborn baby girl in a pile of garbage. Hana is immediately enchanted and insists they name her Kiyoko and find her parents. Against Gin's grumbling protests, the trio embarks on a wild journey through the neon-lit streets of Tokyo during the holidays, following a series of increasingly improbable clues while each confronting the fractured personal histories that led them to the streets. The film is built on coincidence and small miracles, and its affection for its unlikely family of outcasts is boundless.
