Synopsis
## The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
**The Girl Who Leapt Through Time** (時をかける少女, *Toki wo Kakeru Shōjo*) is a 2006 animated science fiction romance film directed by Mamoru Hosoda, produced by Madhouse. Loosely adapted from Yasutaka Tsutsui's 1965 novel, the film marked Hosoda's breakthrough as an auteur and remains one of the most beloved anime films of the 2000s — a warm, funny, and ultimately bittersweet meditation on youth, regret, and the irreversibility of time.
Makoto Konno is an ordinary, cheerful high school girl who one day discovers she has the ability to literally leap backward through time — triggered by running fast and stomping hard. Delighted, she uses the ability for trivial gain: redoing a bad day, getting dessert twice, avoiding an awkward social situation. She seems to have found a cheat code for life. But time leaping has rules, and consequences ripple outward in ways she never anticipated. The moments she jumps away from don't disappear — they land on the people around her. As Makoto begins to understand the weight of the power she holds, particularly regarding her relationships with her two closest male friends, she must confront what she truly values and what she is willing to lose. A deeply tender film about the moments we wish we could take back.
