Synopsis

## The Eccentric Family *The Eccentric Family* (*Uchouten Kazoku*) is one of the most charming and quietly profound anime of the 2010s — a fantasy set in a modern Kyoto populated by tanuki, tengu, and humans, adapted from Tomihiko Morimi's novel by P.A. Works. The Shimogamo family of tanuki are a rowdy, shape-shifting bunch living in Kyoto. Their patriarch, the beloved Souichiro Shimogamo, was once the greatest tanuki in the city — until he ended up in a hot pot, eaten by the "Friday Fellows," a club of human connoisseurs who dine on tanuki once a year. His youngest son Yasaburou is a free-spirited tanuki who can't stop getting into trouble, serving as an errand boy for Akadama, an aging tengu whose student, the bewitching half-tengu woman Benten, now runs with the Friday Fellows. As the anniversary of his father's death approaches, family secrets, old rivalries, and the question of what truly happened that night all come to a head. *The Eccentric Family* is about grief, legacy, and the chaotic, irreplaceable bonds of family — wrapped in gorgeous Kyoto imagery and a wry sense of humor.
