Synopsis

## Tekkonkinkreet *Tekkonkinkreet* is one of anime cinema's most visually arresting achievements — a film that depicts the grime and beauty of an invented Japanese city through animation so expressive it borders on hallucination. In the frenetic, labyrinthine city of Treasure Town, two orphaned street kids have carved out their kingdom. Black is fierce, violent, and calculating — the protector who will do anything to defend what is theirs. White is childlike, almost otherworldly — a dreamer whose pure soul keeps Black's darkness in check. Together they are Kuro and Shiro, the Cats, and Treasure Town belongs to them. But change is coming: a yakuza organization backed by a sinister developer called The Alien has set its sights on the city, planning to demolish the old neighborhoods for a new amusement park. As Black descends into a murderous spiral to fight the invaders, White's light begins to dim — and the film becomes a profound examination of what happens when innocence and violence inhabit the same body. Directed by Michael Arias and based on Taiyo Matsumoto's manga, the film's visual language — saturated color, impossibly dynamic camerawork — has never been equaled in anime.
