Synopsis

## Katanagatari *Katanagatari* is one of anime's great hidden gems — a twelve-episode epic from the mind of NisiOisiN (*Monogatari Series*) that disguises its profound emotional depth inside a breezy road-trip adventure, only to detonate it in one of the medium's most devastating finales. In Edo-era Japan, Shichika Yasuri is the seventh head of the Kyotoryuu school — a martial art that turns the human body itself into a living sword. Having trained in isolation on a remote island with only his sister Nanami for company, Shichika has never encountered the outside world. Everything changes when Togame, a sharp-tongued and ambitious strategist working for the Shogunate, arrives on the island to recruit him for a mission: to collect twelve legendary "deviant blades" scattered across Japan, weapons so extraordinary that normal sword techniques cannot defeat their wielders. Shichika agrees, not out of loyalty or duty, but because he falls for Togame. Together they travel Japan, fighting extraordinary opponents at every stop, while the true nature of Togame's mission — and Shichika's own past — slowly comes into focus. *Katanagatari* is a meditation on purpose, devotion, and the question of what we become when we live only for someone else.
