When his pacifist father Thors is murdered by the mercenary captain Askeladd, Thorfinn dedicates his life to vengeance — following Askeladd's band, earning the right to duel him through battlefield service, and repeatedly failing. As years pass, Thorfinn becomes a child soldier, then a hardened mercenary, losing himself in hatred. The second season pivots to a stunning character study: Thorfinn, stripped of his purpose, must rediscover what it means to live.
